Cornelia Mayhue, 78, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at her home in La Porte, IN with her family by her side.

She was born February 26, 1945 in Groningen, Netherlands, the daughter of Peter Lynema and Frances (Hoeksema) Lynema.

Cornelia grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan; living there the majority of her life until moving to La Porte in 2014. On August 25, 1979, in Grand Rapids, she married the love of her life Raymond Mayhue. Together they were members of the Boston Square Christian Reform in Grand Rapids. Cornelia was a homemaker. She enjoyed crafting, knitting, and cross stitching in her free time. She found peace in bird watching, loved cooking and was known for being a great gardener. But most importantly she cherished time with her family, children, and grandchildren.

She is survived by her two daughters, Suzette Seymour of La Porte, IN, Debra (Frank) Grant of Grand Rapids, MI; three sons, Brian (Pam) Seymour of Grand Rapids, MI, Jeffrey Mayhue of Grand Rapids, MI, Ernest (Rekita) Mayhue of GA; sister, Christine Hunter of Morristown, MI; twenty-two grandchildren, Britney Glennon, Jasmyne Seymour, Asia  Seymour, Cheyanne Seymour, Alexa Seymour, A'myr Seymour, Amari Seymour, Kristian Grant, Gabriel Grant, Joy Grant, Jeffrey Mayhue, Isabel Mayhue, Job Mayhue, Joshua Mayhue, Kailee McGuire, Mariah Seymour, Ashanti Mayhue, Aporshe Mayhue, Ernest Mayhue, Jr., Malaysia  Mayhue, Sanaa Mayhue, Marcus Buchanan and a host of great-grandchildren.

Cornelia was preceded in death by her parents, husband Raymond Mayhue, son Randall Mayhue, brother Leonard Lynema, and sister Hermina Jansens.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. Cremation will take place.
