Clarence L Shoffner

July 9, 1938-November 23, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clarence L. Shoffner, who departed this life peacefully on November 23, 2024, at the age of 86.

Born in LaFollette, Tennessee, on July 9, 1938, Clarence lived a full and adventurous life, always with a smile, a story to share, and a genuine love for the people around him. Clarence was the beloved husband of Penny (Nelson) Shoffner, with whom he shared a wonderful marriage for over 41 years, having wed on February 19, 1983. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

He is also survived by his children: Ginger (Shoffner) Wright, James Shoffner, John Shoffner, and Gina Shoffner; his grandchildren: Johnathan Jenkins, James R. Shoffner, Kenneth Bryan Shoffner, Caitlin Wright, Taylor Shoffner, Haley Shoffner, and Samuel Sharp; as well as his great-grandchildren: Otto Shoffner, Liv Shoffner, and Salem Shoffner. Clarence was also deeply loved by his siblings: Lucilla (Ron) Fee, Minnie (Lloyd) Thorndyke, and his brother, Glen (Karen) Shoffner.

Preceded in death by his parents, Izora and Ben Shoffner, Clarence lived a life defined by hard work, generosity, and an infectious zest for life.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, and a member of the American Legion, he went on to become an entrepreneur in the LaPorte area, where he started and ran several successful businesses. For over 25 years, he owned and operated a construction company, building a reputation for quality and integrity. His true passion, however, was harness racing, and he later followed his heart to the track, where he trained and raced standardbred horses across the country for 25 years. His travels introduced him to countless friends and created lasting memories from coast to coast. After retiring from the horse business, Clarence dedicated more time to his family, often spending quiet days fishing or enjoying the company of his children and grandchildren. An avid fisherman and hunter, he found peace in nature and took great joy in the simple pleasures of life. Above all, Clarence was a people person. He loved meeting new people, socializing, and sharing stories, always with a twinkle in his eye and a hearty laugh. His family and friends will remember him as a loving, warm-hearted man who made a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. The love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him. Rest in peace, Clarence. You were loved beyond measure and will be missed dearly.
