Clara Fort

Mrs. Clara Fort, 87, of Union Mills, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at 9:45 a.m. at her home. She was born July 19, 1919, in North Judson to Joseph and Mary Lucas Budka, and was a lifelong resident of LaPorte County. Mrs. Fort had worked in housekeeping at Westville Correctional Center for 17 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Kingsford Heights. She loved working outside and taking care of her family and home. On Sept. 27, 1939, in North Judson, she married Frank Fort, who died Dec. 22, 1981. Also preceding her in death were her parents, five sisters and five brothers. Surviving are one daughter, Frances Hogle of Kingsford Heights; one son, Russell Sr. Barbara of Union Mills; seven grandchildren, Robin Grzelak, Russell Jr. and Randy Fort, Renee Allen, and Scott, Penny and James Scarborough; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Jason Saffirt officiating. Friends may call Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m. until the service.
