Charles Hopper

Charles E. Hopper January 13, 1928 - February 27, 2014 Mr. Charles E. "Charlie Tuna" Hopper, died peacefully Thursday morning, February 27, 2014, in his home in Hanna, IN. Charles was born on January 13, 1928, in Wayland, Kentucky to Mack and Myrtle (Sloan) Hopper. His parents and a sister (Biddie Lipscomb) preceded him in death. He is survived by James Hopper and Peggy Webb. On December 31, 1949, he married Louise Bugg in Kingsbury, IN. He leaves behind three daughters: Debra (Randy) Perkins, Pattie (Charlie) Craft, Becky Baske and one son, Scott Hopper; four grandchildren: Misty (Bob) Strebe, Ryan Garrett, Karielle (Paul) DeHart, and Nathan Baske; five great-grandchildren: Gavin and Kennedy Troche, Garrett and Rylan DeHart and Luke Baske. In the early 1950's, Charles Hopper started a small wood shop in Kingsford Heights, IN with his cousin, where they created top and bottom boards for a large boiler company, plywood washers for the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant that were essential during the war, and carved plastic tags for Johnsons Service Company. In 1958, Charles Hopper acquired the business with his brother, James Hopper, and named the company Hopper Products. At this time, they purchased the vacant building in Hanna, located at the corner of Old U.S. 30 and Pennsylvania Street where they started making furniture parts for Kinsley Furniture. They also purchased the building located on the South Eastern corner of the railroad tracks, where they used the upstairs to make hide-a-way beds and upholstered them for the trailer industry. In 1974, they renovated the main floor of the building into a tavern, which was known as The Hanna Hub. In 1976, Charles Hopper, his wife, Louise, and their son, Scott, moved to Hanna. In 1995, they sold the tavern; and in turn, sold Hopper Products in 2000. Charles and his son, Scott, then re-opened the wood shop business, C-N-L Products, in the old Co-Op building, where they specialize in custom wood moldings and furniture for homeowners. Chuck Hopper was not only an incredible husband and father; but he was extremely sociable and well loved within his community......where "stranger" wasn't in his vocabulary.
