Mr. Charles C. Hildreth, 81, of 9828S CR-100W, Union Mills, died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at 7 a.m. at his home. He was born Aug. 25, 1922, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Charles Guy and Sadie Brawner Hildreth, and had lived most of his life in the LaPorte area. Mr. Hildreth retired in 1983 as a supervisor in auto part stamping with Budd Company after 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion of Mayfield, Ky., VFW Post 6291, Moose Lodge of LaPorte and National Association for Amateur Radios. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. On Aug. 16, 1947, in LaPorte, he married Helen Rosentreter, who died Dec. 18, 2003. Also preceding him in death were his parents and three sisters, Stella Richards, Opel Stengel and Marie. Surviving are one son, Edward E. Rebecca of Union Mills; two grandchildren, Edward Hildreth and Valerie Reid; three great-granddaughters; and one brother, Dan of Olympia, Wash. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Dwaine Reid officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service. Cremation will take place.
