Charles Hickman

Mr. Charles E. Hickman, 80, of La Porte, Indiana, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday July 25, 2010 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Michigan City, IN. He was born December 13, 1929 in Elkhart, Indiana, the son of Francis Hickman and Leora Sanderson Hickman. Charles was owner of the Hickman's Super Value Store for 22 1/2 years. He also worked as a route deliverer for LaPorte Herald Argus for 3 years. He was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. In February of 1967, Charles accepted Christ, and then in 1969 he started to drive the church bus to pick up and take home children of the church, he did this for forty-years, until now. Charles was a big Cubs fan. On August 30, 1950, in Rolling Prairie, IN, he married Lovella Strauch Hickman who survives. He is also survived by his son - Dwayne Hickman of Little Rock, AR; six grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; two brothers - John Hickman of Marysville, CA, and Dennis Hickman of Jonesboro, AR. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, son, Paul Hickman, daughter, Cindy Hartley, grandaughter, Tonya, and one sister, Patricia. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Friday, July 30, 2010 from 9:00 am, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday July 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Brandon Martin officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
