Carol Lee Woodard January 24, 1940-March 9, 2009 Mrs. Carol Lee Woodard, 69, of Ottumwa, Iowa, formerly of LaPorte, IN. died Monday March 9, 2009 at her home in Ottumwa, IA. She was born January 24, 1940 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the daughter of Bernard Vanderliet and Rossetta Lawrence Vanderliet, living in the LaPorte, IN, area, most of her life. Carol was a homemaker. She was a member of the Salvation Army Church. Carol was very involved with the Salvation Army, including being a Sunday School teacher, Sunbeam leader, she played the cornet for the Salvation Army Band and belonged to Timbrelist. Carol was a crossing guard and a lunch room assistant for six years at the Handley Elementary School in LaPorte, IN. On September 26, 1964, in LaPorte, IN, she married James Woodard, who preceded her in death on August 19, 2004. She is survived by her two sons, Timothy Beth Woodard of Ottumwa, IA, John Faith Woodard of Battle Creek, MI,; two daughters, Karlene Artimio of LaPorte, IN, Naomi Woodard of LaPorte, IN.; Twelve Grandchildren; four sisters, Pat Vanderliet of LaPorte, IN, Phyllis Crowe of LaPorte, IN, Donna Butler of LaPorte, IN, Nancy Gallop of Columbus, OH.; one uncle, Ed Lawrence of LaPorte, IN, one cousin, Debi Spencer of LaPorte, IN, several nieces and nephews. Carol was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, James Woodard. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Haverstock Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Haverstock Funeral Home, with Major Tom Riggs, officiating. Interment will follow in the Patton Cemetery.
