Mrs. Carol Joyce Gierke, 71, of LaPorte, IN. formerly of Kingsford Heights, Indiana died Friday March 6, 2009 at Golden Living Center Fountainview in LaPorte, IN. She was born December 13, 1937 in Rahway, New Jersey, the daughter of Ernest Richard Ziegenbaig and Margaret Koester Ziegenbaig. Carol worked as a bartender for the V.F.W. in Rolling Prairie; she was a member of the Eagles of LaPorte and V.F.W. of Rolling Prairie and the Kingford Union Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxilliary. Carol was a bowler, enjoyed playing bingo and loved to camp at the Rising Sun Camp-Ground in Monterey, IN; she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was married to Donald Frost and then remarried on June 20 1986 in LaPorte, IN., she married Albert Gierke, Sr., who preceded her in death on February 22, 1993. She is survived by her three daughters, Lauri Dave Enochs of Kingsford Heights, IN, Hope Santos of LaPorte, IN., Kelly Penny Frost of Albany, OR., five step-daughters, Darla Clark of LaPorte, IN., Ketra Bolster of Hamlet, IN, Barbara Wiggins of San Diego, CA. Sandra Hodson of LaPorte, IN. and Pat Krassow of Rolling Prairie, IN., four step-sons, Dave Gierke, Gene Gierke, Don Gierke all of LaPorte, IN. and Brooks Hill of Mill Creek, IN. Three Grandchildren, Michael A. Santos, Courtney Enochs and Cody Enochs and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren, two sisters, Lois Smith, Gertrude Quattrochi and one brother Ernest Ziegenbaig. Carol was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, Albert Gierke, Sr.and two step-sons. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends, Sunday, March 8, 2009 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm and from 9:00 am Monday, March 9, 2009, until time of the service. The Funeral Service will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home at 11:00 am Monday, March 9, 2009 with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
