Carl W. Carder

November 24, 1943-October 7, 2023

Born in Three Oaks, MI on November 24, 1943, Carl William Carder passed away peacefully in his sleep October 7, 2023 at his home in La Porte, Indiana.

Carl went to Galiena Township School on Fail Road. On April 17, 1965 he married Lena Mae White. They had four children, Belinda (Al) Markell, Christopher Carl Carder, Gary (Stephen) Carder, and Angie (Cliff) Sokolowski. Carl also had 3 grandchildren, Zach (Jess) Markell, Natalie (David) Papenhagen, and Samantha Sokolowski. He also had 2 great-grandchildren, Avery and Alayna. Preceded in death were his brothers, Jr. and Rueben; sisters Ester and Mary; parents Claxter and Sarah (Clark) Carder, and nephew Scott Carder. He loved his siblings, Helen, Judy, and Christine, and more than 25 nieces and nephews.

Those that knew him, knew he could be a bit eccentric. He had a love for old Mill Creek School and his Halloween exhibits, which were his pride and joy. He also loved hosting his family reunions. He passed on to his children a great work ethic. He was employed for over 40 years at Phillips Drill/Ramset of Michigan City. Before recycling became popular, Carl was repurposing many of life's daily objects. People often commented that for his age of 79 he continued to be a hard worker. Most thought he was younger than he was.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends for a visitation, Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 6-8 PM at the funeral home.  A Celebration of Carl's life will be held at Haverstock on Thursday, October 12, 2023 with a visitation from 10 am until the service time at 11 am.  Bob Vale will officiate.
