Bobby R. Colston June 3, 1936 - January 14, 2017 Bobby Colston, 80, born in Petros, Tennessee was called home by his Lord and Savior on January 14, 2017. He is survived by his daughter, Shelley (Randall) Boone, grandchildren, Rachelle (Jordan) Vander Kolk and Michelle (Jonathan) Key, his great grandchildren, Carter, Elsie, Mallory and Wyatt Vander Kolk, Allison and Robyn Key. Also surviving is his nephew, Charles (Brenda) Bunch, who was like a son to him. His surviving brothers and sisters are Betty Elkins, Ann Dagley, Lonnie Bunch, Eddie Bunch and his brother-in-law, Albert Thomas (Judy) Spradling, nephews, nieces and many friends. Bobby was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Betty "Joe" Colston in 2015. His parents, Ray and Nancee Colston, Clyde and Mae Bunch, his in-laws, George and Bonnie Spradling. Also preceding him in death were Lloyd "Corky" Elkins, Beverly Spradling, Jim and Mary Cowgill, Annie Miller, Robert Spradling, Robert and Norma Colston, Sidney and Jeanette Bunch, Emma Dean Bunch, Faye Cooper, Johnny Bunch, Boyd Bunch, Hoy and Violet Bunch, nephews and nieces. Bobby was employed at companies that left the LaPorte area, Coleman and Modines. He worked with iron workers in Iowa and then retired from New York Blowers as a welder. Bobby enjoyed making hand crafted items from wood, especially musical instruments. He loved planting a large garden and sharing the vegetables that he would grow. He believed in giving his time and money to help others and his church. He volunteered in LaPorte Hospital/Indiana University under the direction of Ann Jesco. Bobby had a love for music and enjoyed playing music with his friends at churches and nursing homes until he was no longer able to volunteer. His immediate family would like to thank his friends, family members, and his church for their thoughts, prayers, and acts of kindness shown to him during his time of dementia. The family would also like to thank Dr. G. Larsen Kneller and his staff for assisting family in his early stages of dementia prior to moving Bobby closer to his family in Grand Rapids, MI. Bobby's memory lives on through all who loved him. His burial has taken place in Patton Cemetery. Please join his family for a memorial service to be held Saturday, February 4, 2017, Noon - Central time at Calvary Baptist Church, 1808 "I" Street, LaPorte, IN. with Pastor Tim Schryer and Roger Cooper officiating.
