Betty Roy

Betty M. Roy August 22, 1930-September 18, 2015 Betty M. Roy, 85, of La Porte, Indiana, died Friday September 18, 2015 at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She was born August 22, 1930 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the daughter of William Rehklau and Josephine Rehklau. In the 1960's, Betty was a pioneer as a professional working woman becoming a successful stockbroker and self-employed tax preparer. In the 1970's, Betty started working at the Indiana Department of Revenue. She worked there for 33 years, eventually reaching the position of auditor reviewer. Betty was also the director of the Lake Park Nursing Home in Merrillville, IN. For the past 10 years she has been working at the The Floor Store as the office manager. Betty sat on the board of the LaPorte Urban Enterprise Zone and volunteered her time to tutor non-English speaking students. She loved art, museums, history, reading, gardening and spending time traveling with her children and grandaughter. On November 8, 1952, she married Michael Roy who preceded her in death in 1986. She is survived by her children; Michael W. Roy of Lohn, TX, Edward C. (Donna Zeno) Roy of Rankin, PA, Nyda (Michael) Glaros of Austin, TX, James E. Roy of LaPorte, IN; and her grandaughter, Tara Marie Roy of Mason, TX. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and husband. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. There will be a Gathering of Family and Friends on Saturday, October 3, 2015, at 12:00 pm at the Silver Palace 1719 State St., LaPorte, IN. 46350.
