Betty Humphrey

Betty M. Humphrey July 14, 1920-November 27, 2014 Betty M. Humphrey, 94, of LaPorte, Indiana, died Thursday November 27, 2014 at Golden Living Center Fountainview in LaPorte, IN. She was born July 14, 1920 in Rossville, Georgia, the daughter of Robert Harris and Lucille (Hull) Harris. Betty worked twenty years as an upholster for Kingsley Furniture. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Betty was an avid gardener. She loved to cook, at Christmas, she made Christmas candy. Betty cherished her children and grandchildren, she loved spending time with all her family and friends. On January 22, 1939, in Georgia, she married Franklin Humphrey, Sr. who preceded her in death September 6, 1997. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Watson of La Porte, IN; two sons, George L (Diane) Humphrey of Hamlet, IN, Franklin (Sharon) Humphrey, Jr. of La Porte, IN; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Baby William, son, Robert W. Humphrey, two grandaughters, two grandsons, one great great grandson, two sisters, Francis Crawford, Alma Gowan, and two brothers, William Harris, Charlie Harris. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Monday, December 1, 2014, from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm and Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 10:00 am, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday December 2, 2014 at 11:00 am with Rev. Curtis Southwood officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army 3240 Monroe St. LaPorte, Indiana 46350.
