Betty Hughes

Betty J. Hughes, 84, of La Porte, IN, passed away on Thursday May 26, 2011 after a long illness, at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital She was born June 16, 1926 in LaPorte, Indiana, the daughter of Wm. Jefferson Garwood and Jenny Elnora (Erickson) Garwood. Betty had lived all of her life in the LaPorte, area. Betty was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, LaPorte Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, and Carmel League. Betty was an avid crotchetier. On February 1, 1948, in LaPorte, she married Howard W Hughes who preceded in death December 26, 2010. She is survived by her son - John (Diane) Hughes of La Porte, IN; two grandchildren - David Hughes Michael Hughes; sister - LaVina Richman of La Porte, IN. and sister-in-law - Mildred Garwood of La Porte, IN. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, Clarence Garwood. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 31, 2011 from 10:00 am, until time of services at the Bethany Lutheran Church. Services will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Tuesday May 31, 2011 at 11:00 am with Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating. Interment will follow at the Carmel Cemetery, LaPorte, IN.
