Bernice Burkhart

Mrs. Bernice E. Burkhart, age 90, of La Porte, Ind., died 4:40 AM Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at LaPorte Hospital in La Porte, Ind. She was born February 18, 1916 in Logansport, Ind. to late William Laymon and the late Cora Pearl Freeman Laymon. She has lived in the LaPorte area since 1943 coming from Logansport, Ind. Mrs. Burkhart was employed by Kaiser Aluminum as a machine operator and inspector for eight years. She attended the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Eastern Star Dorling Chapter, Union Mills, Indiana and a Worth Matron for 3 years. She is a Past President of American Legion Auxiliary of Kingsford Heights, Indiana. On October 11, 1936 in Frankfort, Ind. she married James G. Burkhart who preceded in death on January 11, 1978. She is also survived by her Daughter, Mrs. Sharon Clarence Green of LaPorte, Ind.; Two Sons, Mr. William Sandra Burkhart of LaPorte, Ind., Mr. Thomas Burkhart of LaPorte, Ind.; Eleven grandchildren; Seventeen great-grandchildren; and Six great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Parents, One Son, James L. Burkhart; One Grandson, Roger A. Burkhart; Two Sisters and One Brother. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, October 27, 2006 and from 10:30 AM until time of the service on Saturday. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. at 11:30 AM Saturday, October 28, 2006, Rev. Douglas Hadley officiating. Interment will be at Patton Cemetery in LaPorte, Ind. The American Legion Auxiliary of Kingsford Heights will honor Bernice E.
