Barbara E. Murray, 93, of Hamlet, Indiana, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024 at Miller's Merry Manor in Walkerton, IN.
She was born March 27, 1931 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Sylvester Jackson and Cynthia (Garrison) Jackson-Isbell.
Barbara was a resident of the area for most of her life. On April 9, 1949, in La Porte, she married the love of her life, James Robert Murray, who preceded her in death in March of 1990. James was the bread winner and Barbara took care of the home. As a homemaker, she was devoted to keeping a clean house and baking and intricately decorating Christmas cookies.She enjoyed sewing, making many of her children's clothes. As a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in La Porte, Indiana, Barbara was active with the Episcopal Church Women. For fun, she enjoyed playing bingo and was an avid Jeopardy fan. Her family was her life and she will be dearly missed.
Barbara is survived by her son, Bruce (Patricia) Murray of Plano, TX; daughter, Gloria (Steve) Armstrong of Hamlet, IN; twelve grandchildren, Kristen, Chad, Patrick, Kate, Beth,
Andrew, James "Jay", Chloe, Joris, Matthew, Sarah, David; eighteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband of 40 years, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her "Daddy" Carl Isbell, who helped raise her; sons, Wayne Murray, Curtis Murray; daughter, Patricia Metcalf; sisters, Mary Bridge, Corrina Hartford; brother, Edward Jon Jackson.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1000 Michigan Ave., La Porte, Indiana on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 11 a.m., with Mother Michelle Walker, officiating. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church, and stories can be shared after the service at a church luncheon. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara's honor to St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
