Mrs. Ava Burden Holloway, of Brentwood, 2002 Andrew Avenue, LaPorte, Indiana left this life and went to meet the Lord Jesus on March 22, 2005 after a short illness. Mrs. Holloway married John Jack H. Holloway on October 14, 1939 in New Carlisle, Indiana. He preceded her in death on June 21, 1976. She is survived by on daughter and two sons and their spouses: Nancy and Bill Link of LaPorte, IN, J. Michael and Marcia Holloway of Lafayette, IN., and J. Patrick and Dee Holloway of Noblesville, IN.; five grandchildren; Will Julia, John Dawn, and Joel Link of Midlothian, VA, LaPorte, IN., Chicago, IL, respectively and Jennifer Jeff Deterding of Lafayette, IN and Jessica Rob Chicoine of Champaign, IL.; and by five great-grandchildren, Chelsea Durland and Shannon Link of Midlothian, VA, Emily Link and Johnny Link of LaPorte and Chloe Chicoine of Champaign, IL Mrs. Holloway was born in rural New Carlisle, IN on March 16, 1912 to Louis Kirby Burden and Grace Ethyl Thompson Burden. Her parents and three siblings, Joseph and Robert Burden and Mary Lou Burden Mordenti, preceded her in death. Mrs. Holloway resided in Indiana all of her life; she was salutatorian of Bristol High School when she graduated in 1930. She was co-owner of Holloway Hardware in North Liberty and later of Ace Hardware of Lafayette, IN; she worked primarily as a bookkeeper in these businesses, retiring at age seventy-seven. She worked as a reporter and writer for the Countryman?s Press for several years. She was a very active member of the Dayton, Indiana, United Methodist Church involving herself in Mission and Lay Witness Work, until moving to LaPorte in November 2000. She especially enjoyed being with family and friends, and the tasks of gardening and quilting. Mrs. Holloway was active up until the time of her death. The service for Mrs. Holloway will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home 602 Maple Avenue, LaPorte, IN. at 12:00 noon on Good Friday, March 25, 2005, with Rev. John Walls officiating. Visitation will take place at Haverstock Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2005 and from 10:30 am ? 12:00 pm noon prior to the service on Friday, March 25, 2005.
