Arnold "Arnie" Schoof
December 28, 1937 - March 12, 2023
Arnold (Arnie) Schoof, 85, passed away on March 12, 2023, in the home he built, with his family by his side. He was born December 28, 1937 in LaPorte, Indiana, the son of Lawrence and Gladys (Wilhelm) Schoof. He was baptized, confirmed and married in St. Paul United Church of Christ and graduated from Union Township High School. He married Dorothy (Dottie) Arndt on March 17, 1978.
He grew up on the family farm and helped work the ground from an early age into adulthood, until the family farm was sold. It taught him the value of manual labor, the love of the outdoors, responsibility and maintenance. He could fix almost anything.
Arnie retired, after 50 years of service, from Larson Danielson Construction Company where he was an accountant. He was most grateful for the many friendships he found within the construction community.
Devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren, the time he spent with them enjoying activities were his fondest memories. He enjoyed woodworking, deer hunting, fishing, bowling, gardening and golf. He also enjoyed watching the Cubs and Purdue basketball. Arnie played basketball in high school at Union Township but most importantly in his life, were his loving wife, his family and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by two daughters, Julie (Jeff) VanLiew, of Bradenton, Florida, Janet (Bob) Archer, of LaPorte, Indiana, brother, Larry (Liz) Schoof, two grandchildren, Kyle VanLiew and Jessica (Donald) Miller, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gene, daughter Pamela and brother Melvin.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Avenue, LaPorte, Indiana, where the family will receive friends on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. The celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 27th with Pastor Matthew Becker officiating, followed by internment at Tracy Lutheran Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Lung Association or Dunes Hospice LLC.
