Anne Bird 98, formerly of Tucson, Arizona, late of Michigan City, IN., died at Alterra House-Claire Bridge Cottage, Thursday, November 4, 2004. Born July 6, 1906 in Berwyn, Illinois, she was the daughter of Charles and Anne Freedle Bird. She graduated from Berwyn High School and attended both Lake Forest College and Northwestern University in Illinois. For many years she lived in downtown Chicago having her own bi-line in the Chicago Sun Times. She was considered a young ?entrepreneur? of her time being credited with creating and developing one of the first direct mail systems in Chicago. She owned and operated ?Hooven Letters? also in Chicago. In 1958, she sold her company and retired to Brown Deer, Wisconsin to raise her four-year-old niece after her niece?s mother was killed in a car accident. She later moved to Tucson and remained there until moving to LaPorte in 2000 to be near her family. She enjoyed these past four years sharing the stories of her life, her love of history and reading with her niece and developing an extraordinary bond with her great niece, Ashley. Surviving is her niece, Chris Hinshaw of LaPorte, her great nieces, Ashley and Melissa Hinshaw and her great nephew, Steven Hinshaw. Per her wishes there will be no services. Burial will be private in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
