Mr. Alex Austin, Jr., age 64, of La Porte, Ind., died 11:39 PM Tuesday, September 19, 2006, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, Ind. He was born October 17, 1941 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to the late Alex Austin and the late Myrtle McCullum Austin. He has lived most of his life in the LaPorte area. Mr. Austin was employed as a custodian by McCormick Place in Chicago, IL; he also worked at Teledyne Casting Service for 10 years and LaPorte County Highway Dept. for 8 years. He was a member and a Deacon at the Community Christian Center of LaPorte. He attended a trade-school for auto mechanics. He liked to work-out, gardening, fishing, supported grandchildren in sports, traveling, choir practice and loved spending time with his family. On December 10, 1960 in Parma, Missouri he married Delzine Davis who survives. He is also survived by Two Daughters, Marilyn Austin of La Porte, Ind., Brenda Jeff Woodard of La Porte, Ind.; One Son, Donald Kassandra Austin of Kingsford Heights, Ind.; Six grandchildren Darnell Austin of LaPorte, Durell Marshall of LaPorte, Carlton Austin, Courtney Austin, Crystal Austin all of Kingsford Heights, James Bryce Staggers of LaPorte; Two Sisters, Joyce Austin of Chicago, Ill., Diane Austin of Las Vegas, Nev.; Three Brothers, Mr. Cliffton Dorothy Austin of Houston, Texas, Mr. Antonio Aquanetta Austin of Houston, Texas, and James Cotton of Kansas City, Mo. He is preceded in death by his parents, One Sister, Ophelia "Sis" Austin and one brother Amos Austin. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., Family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Saturday, September 23, 2006 at the Community Christina Center. Funeral service will be at Community Christian Center at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 23, 2006, Pastor Terry O'Neal officiating. Interment will be at Pine Lake Cemetery in LaPorte, Ind.
